Dressing up fun at Croome Park
Our first visit to a National Trust property as members - a Christmas present. Croome is a stately home recently taken over by the NT after a chequered history as the seat of the Earl of Coventry (18th C), a Catholic School, a Hare Krishna Centre and a nightclub. The Krishna phase resulted in some garish colours being used on the mouldings in one room.
All in all an intriguing house still in development (the caretaker from its nightclub days is living out his tenancy in part of the house; the ceiling in the main entrance room is bowed from the giant 'football pitch' sized bath put in by some executive during its nightclub days).
Best of all though - converted 1940s RAF huts serving a great cream tea.
