Fish & Chips

We had fish & chips tonight, I can't remember the last time we had them, but what I do remember as soon as I do have them is that I'm always a bit disappointed.

I was born in Bradford, the fish and chips there are in a different league. I've yet to find any in London that even come close.

To be continued .... My eyes are closing .

The first time I ate fish and chips in London I was horrified, I'd just turned 18 and was living in a squat in Camden. I bit into the fish and found something rubbery in my mouth, the backbone of a rock. I didn't eat them in London again for some time.

The next ones in London I had were from The Seashell in Lissom Grove, I was told that stars got their fish and chips from there, including Mick Jagger, I don't remember being that impressed.

My friend Elita, who was also from Bradford, used to visit her parents regularly, on her return journey she would buy me fish and chips in Bradford, wrapped twice. I would meet her off the train at Kings X and rush back home to reheat them. Gorgeous .

My favourite fish and chip shops are

Undercliffe Chippy, Bradford

Wrose Fisheries, Bradford

One in Settle, opposite the car park ( always stop there en route to Ullswater).

The one in Aldeburgh, closest to the quay, these are really delicious even though it's not Yorkshire.

Ooh, there's one in Penrith that's really good too, it's family run, two or three generations working there, the mother of the family likes tell everyone how old she is, lots of times .....
