Terror Incognita
Film night, and it's a Hitchcock-influenced thriller that I somehow missed in the wild days of 1999. Arlington Road deals with a counter-terrorism expert who becomes convinced that his neighbours are bomb-happy anarchy-merchants, but (isn't it always the way?) struggles to convince his superiors that he's not just suffering a breakdown due to his wife's death.
As a homage to Alfred the Great, it's top quality suspense fare. As a serious film about political affairs, however, it's nothing more than a quaint reminder of the simplistic monsters-under-the-bed with which we preoccupied ourselves before September 11th 2001.
