A RARE TREAT!

Can’t believe I actually saw some Loons up close and personal – and even got a picture of them! This evening my Son-In-Law took my daughter and me on a quiet boat ride on their lake in upper west Michigan. It’s a ‘no wake’ lake so boats use a quiet electric motor – the incredibly peaceful ride is a real treat! We hoped to see the Loons, but you never know where they’ll be or whether they’ll stay around once they see a boat. I was worried the shots might look just black & white since we were out at sunset and the lighting was less than great, but I was thrilled to see decent results with a tiny bit of color!

There are actually three Loons playing in the water. The third is behind the wing & shoulder of the Loon with its wings open. Their feathers form an intricate pattern of black and white checks with a beautiful striped ring around the neck, and they have unusual red eyes. (Be sure to check 'large' to see the incredible detail.) I was so happy to get this shot - for me this was a rare event!
