Modified again

The camera equipped nesting box which I originally blipped on 5/5 and subsequently again on 11/7 following a modification, is once again set up in the garden.

Whilst a Crested Barbet (Trachyphonus vaillantii) initially displayed interest in the box, I found that having used an old piece of a sisal nesting log on the frontpiece, the material had dried out to the extent that the bird was battling to break through the dry fibre.

I have now used a fresh nesting log which I have sawn in two, and replaced the original front panel completely.

The picture shows the box as it is now mounted in the tree, together with a internal shot from the videocam inside the box.

Amazingly, within an hour or placing it back in the tree, the pair were again showing great interest in the potential new home.
