Gavnø, Næstved Canal and Enø

My dad joined the boys and I on our adventures today and we had a super day.

We started by going to Gavnø Castle, which is where this collage is from. It is a beautiful rococo castle located on the island Gavnø near Næstved, where my dad lives. Already in the 12th century there was a pirate's castle on the island. In 1398, however, it was purchased by Queen Margrethe the Ist, who turned it into a convent for "unmarried women of noble rank". Today it is famous for it's fantastic flower garden. There is also a butterfly house, which I went to see whilst my dad looked after the dogs. He had seen it before, so he was happy to wait outside.

From Gavnø, we could see across Karrebæksminde Fjord to the bottom of Næstved Canal and we decided to go there and enjoy life at the harbour. It was lovely and the boys even found a good place for a swim.

Next stop was Enø - another island, which is on the opposite side of the fjord. It is a very touristy place and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Lots of happy people. There was a band playing music from a boat in the canal. How cool is that?!

We had a late lunch in a café on Enø before we said goodbye to my dad and went home.

A fabulous day!

See you tomorrow.
