But, then again . . . . .

On Top of the World.

A week ago, my nephew came to visit from London, via a Highlands and Islands audax - a 1300 km cycle ride that took him five days. The rest of his family arrived by car the next day, direct from London. Tomorrow they depart, bound for Glesca to watch the Commonwealth road race, if things go to form they will get very wet. However, today we went for a stroll up Arthur's Seat as they were desperate to see the view from the top. It poured with rain, was windy, the cloud was low and we couldn't see the top until we were standing on it. The Forth Bridge would have looked wonderful if it had been a sunny day.

It was an interesting walk up, that is to say, we were totally lost and so the route was devious and took a significant amount of time and effort. We were greeted at the top by two young girls drinking take-away Starbucks and wearing court shoes. The blip is of Said Nephew's assault on the summit accompanied by SN Jnr and supervised by Mrs SN, it was an ordeal trying to hold the camera steady in the gale force wind up there. I did think that they should have had a flag and flag pole to raise as in the famous press photograph taken on Iwo Jima, but that will require a return visit, as will photographs of the view.

This evening Jnr and Mrs SN sampled their first haggis and neeps, for some reason the proprietary brand haggis was a bit dry, but at least two more items were ticked off their bucket list.

I’ve just posted “Dog Rose” from the 17th June.
