Last day on Skye with Alfie Looking Cute

It's a day of sunshine and showers helped along with a very good lunch at the Three Chimneys followed by a tour of the local area which is beautiful and very quiet compared to the main roads. Thank you C and T!!

Tomorrow we return home to say hello to our boys who have been stealing the hearts of our lovely house sitters from Derby. We have enjoyed our tour of Skye, Harris and Lewis. Wifi - and phone signal much of the time - are not available also we decided against campsites due to 'their busyness' consequently running low on camera battery although John will look into this - the iPad etc can be charged in the van.

The islands have a dramatic beauty and most of the time the weather was very good. The number of sites of historic interest wetts the appetite and makes me wonder what we did at school. For example we looked into an iron house recovered from the beach, the Broch blipped last week and the black house village renovated with one house giving a demonstration on weaving another in use as a hostel.

War memorials and monuments to the crofters over land rights are much in evidence and the community centres with home baking, wifi, museums and friendly welcome are a huge asset.

For motorhomers wild camping is easy, we could nip onto a campsite, pay to dump the unmentionables, top up with water and wander off looking for a scenic view. Harris had a number of places for an overnight stay suggesting we pay £5.00 a night to the West of Harris Trust, usually a flat area overlooking a fabulous beach.
