Crocosmia - or Montbretia?

Why do these names get changed?

Along with fuchsia, they grow wild along the roadsides in the west of Ireland. I've started a patch in my garden because they are pretty spectacular plants. All I need now is to find a place for a hardy fuchsia too :-)
