Belgian Draft Horses
Sometimes things have a way of working out despite our best efforts to screw things up. Today I talked OilMan into going to the town of Sonoma, where I recalled there was a shop with outdoor furniture and garden supplies called Sonoma Backyard. On the way, I checked my phone for the address only to discover that Sonoma Backyard is in Cotati. Rather than turn around and go in the opposite direction, I convinced OilMan to carry on, thinking that we could find a good blip.
Sonoma was heaving with tourists, so we detoured around the square and made our way out of town, where, out of the corner of his eye, OilMan spotted the outdoor furniture store. It wasn't called Sonoma Backyard, but it was the one I wanted to check out. OilMan was happy enough to hang around the outdoor kitchen section (kitchens with more amenities than my indoor kitchen) while I wandered around the patio furniture, and got to know the two resident dogs.
As we were driving back home, we looked for the spot where the Belgian Draft Horses hang out. Usually there are more than there were today, but these two were more than willing to pose for my camera. I think it's been awhile since they have drawn a plow or a cart, but I love their feet nonetheless.
Closer to home is a place called Swede's Feeds where Dana said she saw an egret sculpture out on the highway. When she drove by again later in the day it was gone, but it was back out there today, so we went in to check out their eclectic supply of whimsical garden sculptures, pet food, hay, plants and some fancy chickens, one black one with a very elaborate white bonnet. I was tempted by a cactus sculpture, given our setting of agaves and rocks. I'll have to think about the irony of a cactus sculpture in a garden where cactus is about the only plant that thrives….
