Bullfinch..
..that was my first thought, a drab female, but research tells me it is a greenfinch, a male, losing his breeding plumage. He was certainly enjoying thistle seeds (that's why I thought bullfinch to start with). Told you I wasn't very good with small birds..!
It's wet today, frequent heavy showers passing over..
Think I'll spend the day in the shed..
And finally, can someone explain why we're commemorating the centenary of the start of WW1. Surely it is better to celebrate the end of it. There were 37 million casualties (military and civilian), with 16 million deaths. The end of this carnage is more meaningful..
