of a tree in the yard after sunset. I had misjudged the exposure a bit. My eye could still see plenty of color left in the sky, but when I uploaded the photo it looked like a solid black rectangle. I was puzzled until I realized that my photo was actually hiding within the blackness. A little bit of fiddling with exposure setting, b&w points, and shadows brought out the hints of color that I had seen.
