The next best thing

Having been away from the village of Balfron for so long, I have only just heard about the recent stooshie.

Apparently it was suggested that local hero, Ross Murdoch, the swimmer whose eyes nearly popped out of his head when he won gold in the 200m breaststroke in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, should have a gold pillar-box erected in Balfron in his honour. Or at least for one of the pillar-boxes to be painted gold.

The proposal was rejected by Royal Mail. It is an accolade bestowed, it is said, only to Olympic gold medal winners. Someone has been incensed enough to print a poster and tie it to railings beside a very tatty, rusty, red pillar-box. Point made!
