Glen Quaich...
Backblip
A few months ago we treated ourselves to an early Silver Wedding Anniversary pressie, an oil painting of Glen Quaich by Perthshire artist Claudia Massie, so as we began the weekend celebration of our 25th Wedding Anniversary, it seemed only right that we start with a drive up the Sma' Glen, turning left at Amulree and continuing through Glen Quaich.
Oh my heavens, what a drive, definitely not for the faint-hearted! I was VERY glad David was at the wheel, but it is so worth it. Simply stunning views.
THIS is looking back towards Loch Freuchie. I got out of the car to take the photo and we were so high up, I had to lean on the car to stop my head spinning. The view to the right was just as stunning, right up Glen Quaich with the River Quaich meandering towards Loch Freuchie. So wild and beautiful and the bonnie purple heather in full bloom.
Taking this shot, I experienced one of those life defining, exhilarating moments, where many thoughts collide - thoughts of the past, the present, the future - and merge with the physical sensations of being on the Roof of the World, the wind playing with my hair like long, wild fingers and bringing with it the intoxicating scent of pure, fresh air, drawing it hard into my lungs till they were fit to burst and in that moment, that precious, precious moment, feeling truly alive.....
Back in the car and over the rest of the Glen, driving down to Kenmore where we stopped to admire the view at the top of Loch Tay and marvel and the hardiness of the kids in their trunks and swim suits, waist deep in the loch. I had a card and a scarf on! :))
Lovely drive along the length of Loch Tay to Killin then down past Loch Lubnaig (where we spent one memorable wedding anniversary sitting on it's shore eating a fish supper) and on to our final destination - Cromlix - which would be our home for the next three nights.
One word. Heaven.
