Diary of an Edinburgher

Culture!

A walk in the Meadows this morning, with lots of running around with various dogs (Archie, not us). At one point Archie had heading off at great speed to say hello to a big dog, and I called him. He turned and ran back straight away and two passing girls were very impressed. Those high value treats are working well! But actually, I might use a whistle, as sometimes he genuinely can’t hear you calling.

This afternoon/evening we popped across to George Square for a couple of shows - and not one, not two, not three, but FOUR buses came at the same time!! Is this a world record?

Two great shows. Well, one quite good, clever show, and another terrific show. The first one was based on the website FanFiction and basically, you re-write what you’d’ve liked to have happened in a story, film, computer game - anything you like. There are millions of 'em, written by people obviously with too much time on their hands. Some are just suggestions and some are many chapters long. We had five Kiwis standing up and reading out their FanFictions. Clever people.

But the next show was singing and dancing and comedy sketches, sometimes a wee bit risqué, but mostly very very funny. They spotted a Deborah Meaden (Dragon's Den) lookalike in the audience and played up to her throughout the show. I do recommend them - Four Screws Loose.

What a lovely sunny evening - the George Square venue gets better every year with the terrific food available and the seating. If we had been dog-less we may have hung around a bit and gone to another show. But I’m so glad we’re not dog-less.
