My view of them
I know these Kelpies have been blipped many times and I am not even pretending that this photo does them justice – you can only see one of them for a start. BUT this is my view of them and a record of how I saw them and was completely blown away by the sight.
At the last minute before we set off for the Games on Sunday, we decided to stay around Glasgow over until today. So we packed a few things, booked a room at a Premier Inn at Falkirk and, after the Netball and dropping our daughter off at the station, we stayed the night there.
So, of course this morning we couldn’t leave the area without going to see the Kelpies. We did not have the time to go into the Park and see them close up, so we took local advice and walked along a footpath on the other side of the canal, from where we could at least view them. I have seen pictures of them and fell in love with Biker Bear’s wonderful sunset picture, but nothing really prepares you for seeing them rising up out of nowhere for the first time. They are huge and magnificent and to fully appreciate them, as Biker Bear says, ‘you have to be there yourself’ - if you possibly can.
We spent the rest of what turned out to be a lovely sunny day exploring a few places along the north and south of the Forth of Firth, including going over the Forth Road Bridge, which we hadn’t done for a long time. Then we followed the coast round Edinburgh, joining holidaymakers enjoying the sunshine in Portobello, before finally heading home.
