Fields of Battle

The Fields of Battle street gallery exhibition opened today in St James's Park as part of the WWI centenary.

Some amazing images on display including aerial views of the scars left by trenches and objects such as compasses found in the fields.

Soldiers' helmuts were often placed on top of upturned bayonets to mark individual graves. Remains were later moved into organised cemeteries.

This is a picture of an individual grave that still exists today in a secret location.
