Sunlit wood
...Above Blairmore. This forestry track tends to be dark and cold, even in summer, because of the vegetation as well as the fact that it's on a north-east facing slope, but at this point this afternoon that sudden splash of sunlight on a path so thick with pine needles that it looked as if it had been specially created for a movie set in mediaeval times made the dark wood beautiful.
Further up, much of the track is horribly chewed up with the beginning of harvesting. Although it leads over the hill above Strone Point, and has wonderful views from the top, I have a feeling we may not be walking it again for some time. Depressingly, it also occurs to me that by the time the timber has been harvested and the landscape reduced to the semblance of the Somme battlefield, I may well be past hiking up it ...
