Day 4: Deep In The Heart Of Texas

The stars at night, are big and bright...

It's true what they say about Texas. After arriving in San Antonio last night, we planned to drive as far as we could today to get thru the Lone Star State. The shortest route to the Grand Canyon would take us thru Gila National Forest and away from the larger cities of Tucson and Phoenix.

We were amazed by the majestic views across the Continental Divide and after a brief summer storm, a beautiful double rainbow emerged. As we passed thru small towns like Cliff or Glenwood, NM with populations less than 1000, we wondered what people who lived there did day-by-day. Bus stops dotted the mountain passes, but I wondered how often a bus would actually come by there.

As the sun disappeared behind the mountain, darkness began to set in and we cautiously proceeded toward Eager, AZ. After a seemingly endless descent, we were relieved to see the city lights of civilization in the valley below.

We've come so far already but I've still got a long way to go.
