Darwen Tower

A fine walk up to Darwen Tower this afternoon, under darkening skies. This "Jubilee Tower" (generally called Darwen Tower) was completed in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and also to celebrate the victory of local people for the right to access the moor.

There were some good views of the Tower from the surrounding paths, many of which are, in theory, temporarily closed to the public to enable some works to nearby reservoirs. A directional stone has a fine carving of the Tower.

On the way down I passed a group of people intent of breaking a world record for joined-up dog walking.
