Alaska Day 8. Le conte Glacier
Began motoring to Petersburg at 7AM…Saw orca whales on the way and stopped for awhile to watch - but they didn’t do anything spectacular ….Got to Petersburg and transferred to a jet boat for the trip to Le Conte Glacier (it goes a lot faster than the sailboat and pushes through those icebergs). What an amazing site —Wonderful shapes of blue ice and what I loved were all the harbor seals here so that will be a blip - to contrast with the ones in our bay a few days ago - these live on white. A large population in here. They have their babies here and then move out to where there are more nutrients I think. The glacier is impressive (do look) and the boat and the owner Eric were fun. Brought our lunch, had 2 potty stops along the way, one at the only accessible beach, and then on the way out, a fancy outhouse at a boat launch—it rained a bit in the afternoon and we met the Island Odyssey in the middle of nowhere for the smooth transfer back to the sailboat. More motoring to our anchorage for the night at Berg Bay.
