L'Argentiere
Another day another market in a pretty little Ardechoise town. Today it was L'Argentiere which was, as its name suggests, a town dominated for years by silver mining before it moved onto silk production and then, after China opened up for trade, penury.
Whilst Tricia and the assembled throng savoured the delights, much more prosaically I tried to match some floorboards that I had purchased about eight ears ago. Slightly miraculously the same timber merchant stocked the same boards and so we can finish the Rabbit Room floor in the not too distant future.
Then invited to drinks with a neighbour below us at 8:30 pm - which seemed a curious time. Got there and realised it was the night they were showing the Orange operas on French TV, something we had talked with him about much earlier in the year - he goes to all the productions. Othello was tonight and we sat and listened to the first two acts but I have to say I struggle with Verdi and we left after that. La Boheme started at 1:00 am and that would have been a different matter. The setting of the Roman Theatre in Orange with the original backdrop was however stunning and rather outdid the opera itself imho.
