not much has changed
things were rough in 19th century england as mr. charles dickens tells me.
but then, when wasn't life tough? i'm sick of people romanticizing the past. what i've learned from world AP is that there has never been an ideal or perfected society despite constant, and i mean constant, attempts to improve or conquer or destroy. it's quite irritating, really. whenever i'm in that class, i think about the time period we're studying and if i'd like to live in that time. ninety-eight percent of the time it's a resounding 'no.' i think about all of our advancements in technology. i mean, the toilet is still a relatively new invention. but then, you can't miss what you don't have.
and still we've made it through these hard times of dickens and we'll make it through these hard times now. remarkable how we haven't thought of something more contemporary than 'hard times.' not very descriptive, is it?
oh & today marks my first blip of february. i'm trying for a month straight. :)
PS--everyone should congratulate pocho on her 500th blipday!
