Lunch Stop on the Spokes Ride by the River Tyne

A nice ride on the Spokes Ride, we went to Haddington and Gifford in East Lothian.

Here we are beside the River Tyne in Haddington enjoying a picnic lunch in the sunshine. A lovely day where we managed to avoid the heavy rain showers that plagued Edinburgh and it environs. Of course we did get rained on heading back in to Edinburgh, but that was the end of the ride.

Haddington was the birthplace of John Knox, who was a leader of the Protestant Reformation and is considered the founder of the Presbyterian denomination in Scotland.

Gifford also has a famous clergyman, the Rev. John Witherspoon. Never heard of him? He was the only clergyman to sign the American Declaration of Indepenence. And was the founder of the Presbyterian denomination in America.
