Incy wincy spider..

Firstly, apologies for a rubbish picture. It was not taken to show my skills as a photographer (?), but more to show the wonders on one of natures wonderful engineers.

A closer inspection will show two strands of spiderweb stretching from the green bin to one of the marigold flowers. A distance of nearly ten feet (3 metres). Now you have to ask, how does a spider do this? If it starts at the bin, it would either have to jump (unlikely), or crawl down the bin, across the path, through the grass, and finally up the stem of the marigold to the flower bud at the top (about 18 inches above ground). Then it would have to pull the strand tight, before fixing it to the flower. The second strand would be done in the same way, or the spider could crawl back along the first strand.

Questions have to be asked about the first strand. Why doesn't it stick to the path, grass, and marigold plant? Or are the main suspension cables not sticky? There was a small web constructed at the bin end. It didn't last long, Tanni ran straight through it! Sorry Mr Spider..

Went topping this morning with the tractor. Did the patch of parsnips, carrots, and beetroot, that had become so weedy that I can't do anything with it. Did a few other patches, and then some bits on A's croft. And then it started raining. Quick lunch, which developed into a long lunch while waiting for the rain to stop. It didn't.. Bottled another brew of beer, will have enough bottles for another one next week, and then all the bottles will be full!!.

Then, just as I was starting a few jobs in the shed, got an order for veges from the hotel. So a quick change of plan, a bit of harvesting, and delivery. A pint and then home for a late tea..

And what a fantastic achievement announced today by ESA's Rosetta probe reaching a comet. The figures, speeds and distances are mind boggling..

Music..
