'Went to Drusillas'

Drusillas was started as a tea garden in 1925 by Douglas Ann and his wife Drusilla'
The age of the motor car had arrived creating a large demand for places in the countryside where motorists could take afternoon tea. Drusillas was an instant success as a tea room but as competition grew Douglas Ann tried to make his establishment more interesting by setting up a 'Baby Zoo', for which there was a charge of sixpence (equivalent to 2.5p in todays money).

Set in the middle of the South Downs, and just ten minutes form our home its's perfect. Simon, my son came home for the day and we all had a really fun day. Picnic lunch....then fish and ships tonight! No cooking! Despite the forecast the weather has been beautiful again.

In the collage.. Ring tail Lemurs, the boys Thomas, Peter, Alex and Will, Thomas swinging on the chain and Peter with the Parakeets.
