St.Johns's Regatta

Held on the first Wednesday of August since 1813, if suitable weather. If not postponed to next suitable day on the Quidi Vidi Lake in St.John's, Newfoundland. Since Regatta Day is a civic holiday in St.John's, this means that weather actually determines whether or not workers have the day off, a matter sometimes complicated by light night partying associated with the end of the George Street Festival the night before. The Regatta is North America's oldest annual sporting event.
