The Frighteners

Yet another gurnard.

One of the theories behind the winglike pectoral fins is that they may frighten off potential predators by making the gurnard seem bigger. Unfortunately not big enough for my dinner.

He has plenty of other spiky deterrents, which is the reason for the forceps to keep hold of his lip.
