Champion!
My friend Maureen Carroll called morning for coffee and I got to chat to her about her recent squash success.
She is back from competing in the World Masters Squash Championship in Hong Kong where she came 6th in her age group- the over 60s.
Well done Maureen!
This is the third time she has competed in the World Squash Championships, the previous ones were in Germany and New Zealand.
Maureen is well known on the Scottish sports scene for she is chairperson of Dunblane Sports Club ( yes where Andy Murray learnt to play!) and she coaches both adults and youngsters in squash.
I have been known to play the occasional game of golf with Maureen and I found it a revelation playing with someone with a strong competitive streak. For Maureen, who worked as a nuclear physicist before having a family, analyses every stroke in order to improve her game.
So I am not surprised she now ranks in single figures in the World Masters Squash Championships.
