Anyone for Cricket?

GREAT SUPPORTERS

Today is shapely Saturday in the August Challenge so as I was in Worcester I was looking at the arches on the main bridge - the only bridge in the City. When it flooded recently it caused no end of problems for people who need to get into and out of the City Centre.

I went to Worcester for a service in the Cathedral to mark the 100 years anniversary of the start of WW1. It was a good service which focussed on the contributions of local people and the impact of war being declared in the area. Woodbine Willy, al Worcester man and Army Chaplain featured in the service and there is currently a display about him in the Cathedral. They also have some unique stained glass windows in the cloisters commemorating the locals who were killed in action. We put poppies on these windows as part of the service.

After that I went for a walk along the river. Worcester was packed because it's been a lovely day and the cricket was on. The cricket ground is on the opposite side of the river to the Cathedral and at the time there was lots of cheering going on. That section of the river is a non fishing section as it is a swan sanctuary. I think it must have been around feeding time as there were a lot of them around on one bank, then they all set off to the bank right next to the cricket ground. They must be enthusiastic supporters. They were quite a sight to behold.
