What! And leave show business?

This young farmer looks a little disenchanted with farming just at the moment. Today was the Orkney County Show, a red-letter day to Orkney's farmers and other residents. During the night I was woken by torrential rain and did not have much optimism about the weather for today. Luckily, it stayed only grey and miserable for much of the morning with the torrents holding off until later when most of the stock judging etc. was over. The venue only filled slowly as people realised that the rain might stay off but, as it started, masses went into the tents so it was actually pretty impossible to look around them. I missed last year's event and got the impression that there were fewer animals today. Certainly not as many goats, which is a shame because they can be photogenic what with their shenanigans. Still, I was pleased to get a few shots of the stock and the characters.More shots here.
