Heart of the Beast
The continuing saga of the furnace from hell. I've posted about our furnace before....twice. Two days ago it effectively stop working. Yesterday the repairman, the 11th visit in two years I believe, came and discovered the induction motor was fried. He also felt that the induction motor could have been the culprit for all the previous woes with the furnace.
Great. Amazingly he was able to replace the motor before the end of the day and all looked well. But just as he was about to step out our front door, the furnace shut down again! Back we, he, went and after another hour and a half of wrestling with the beast he was still unable to diagnose the problem. The furnace would randomly shutdown. He felt that something in the overall system was intermittenly drawing too much current and thus dropping the voltage to the pressure switch which would cause the switch to trip and shutdown the system. There was only one component in the furnace that has not been replaced yet, the ignition module and he said it was a notorious component for causing problems.
So tomorrow he is coming to replace that part. Part of me believes that this furnace will never work properly, even though every electrical component has now been replaced over the course of two years. But let's wait till tomorrow to see.
P.S. I see Elvis... The ghost in the machine?
