Venice
A friend is staying in Venice at the moment. It is several years since I was last there. We considered going a couple of years ago, but perhaps we left it too late to find reasonably priced accommodation.
On one occasion I came into Venice on a small cruise liner from Croatia, it was not my first visit, but I think arriving by boat is the most spectacular way in which to arrive. It was early morning, the city appears through the early morning mist. Then the ship sails slowly through the city past the Grand Canal to its mooring.
One thing I never did was take a ride in a gondola as they are far too expensive. Did manage a water taxi one time, we arrived by train and took a taxi to the hotel. For the rest of the time we took the water buses.
It is easy to see why this city is not the easiest place in which to live. Aside from the general inconveniences inherent in the life, there are too many tourists, there are even too many tourists for the tourists!
