Urquhart (Inland)

After a return bout with the 'full Scottish' (the addition of haggis on this one was a definite improvement!), we drove round the bottom of Loch Ness, where the slightly wet and misty weather, if anything, only added to the grandeur of the Highland scenery. We stopped at The Falls of Foyer and the beach at Dores before we drove back through Inverness and round to Urquhart Castle, where we waited out the rain before exploring the ruins. The piper by the tower was a neatly evocative touch! They even had George Bain's book in the gift shop... The only down-side was the long-dreaded attack of the famous Scottish midges in their thousands. Afterwards we moved on once more to Fort William, where we put off eating in the more up-market restaurant in our hotel in favour of Curry Night at the local Wetherspoons (where they forgot our order and made us wait ages but eventually gave us our money back too, so all was well...)
