Allotment first thing this morning. The fox was resting under this plant, and looking a little less sleek than she was.
One of the first things to flower every year is my well-loved Euphorbia carachias Wulfenii. I have a great love (and quite a large collection) of Euphorbiae, a huge family that range in type from trees to shrubs to little rock-plants to succulents. This one is a big bush (about 1.5 m tall and across) with grey-green leaves and huge heads of acid-yellow flowers that will last right through the summer. It makes a braw statement at the end of the allotment path, always lifts my spirits to see it coming into bloom :)
