Bertha's Sting
Hurricane Bertha may well have been considerably downgraded, but she still had a sting in her tail. After a wet and miserable morning the sun came out and it almost looked like a good time to head out for a walk. Fortunately, however, we have a good view out to the western horizon where it looked very dark and threatening, and within fifteen minutes Bertha's final fling had reached us. Torrential rain for a good half hour, with hailstones, thunder and lightning thrown in for good measure. We live halfway down a hill so we are never going to get flooded, but it was like living next to a river as the water ran down the lane, and I suspect the houses at the bottom may have had a few problems.
