Not only sport

It is not only the wonderful sporting spectacle that is taking place on Glasgow.

Alongside us a brilliant festival of my sic, art and culture.

Following my success in getting into venues today I tried lawn bowls.

I was in the area anyway to exchange one of my polo shirts that had a small fault.

With shirt expertly and efficiently exchanged I headed across the road through the stunning Kelvingrove park to the bowls.

On the way I came across the refurbished Kelvingrove bandstand.

The stage had regular music on it, and is also screening live sport from The Games.

So on to the bowls, confident with pass in hand that I would get in.

A polite but firm "No" was the answer.

Fair enough, my pass isn't actually valid for the venue. A look in would have been nice but no matter.

On my shift today the English 5000m athletes arrived. I joked with my other team members that the Games have really started now the "proper runners" have arrived.

It turned out one of the coaches used to live in the very same village where I grew up and knew Mam and Dad very well.

What a small world at times.
