The fruit and veg market in Fethiye

I don't feel I can adequately capture the riot of bright colour here. I obviously can't get across the wicked smell of fruit and spices either...

Today I 'swam the island!' It is about 7.5km to completely swim around it. We set off at about 9:30 (as the regular water taxi was leaving - that's how I know). Fred and Helen (another teacher - on the same week's holiday) escorted me in kayak and canoe with water and sun cream. I did it in about 2 hours and 15 minutes - not certain because we had to work it out after getting back into the hotel. When we told the hotel owner and staff we had done it they were impressed and said only 4 other people had ever done it from their hotel - which is not the impression we got from reading the brochure where they say 'confident swimmers' can do the swim..! The water was lovely and warm.

In the afternoon we took the 20min boat taxi to Fethiye and visited the fish and vegetable markets, and generally pottered between shops and bars. It was so difficult to know what sort of picture represented our day.
