I feel like floating away.

I once went on a multi-pitch climbing course, to learn how to keep myself and my climbing partner safe whilst climbing up a rock face. I have had many negative responses to my choice of sport, but the only justification I can give is that, very simply, I'm a climber. It is my sport.

The tutor was a very fit, very humorous, very sharp young man. He told us that climbing is not a game, it has no rules. Only laws. When asked to clarify he explained that rules can be broken, laws cannot.

'You can make a rule about checking your equipment and may well get away with breaking it. But it if you think you can break the law of gravity you will find you are wrong.'
