Hovering above the Channel

We had an early start this morning, as we had to drop our son-in-law, Jason, off at Charles de Gaulle airport for about 8.30 am. Roger, Jen and I then continued north to Calais to take the ferry across to England. Our crossing was around 12.30, a little later than scheduled, as apparently they were still catching up on delays overnight due to strong winds and high seas. The water was still a little choppy, but nothing dramatic, and didn't cause us any problems, but I'm sure Roger's sister wouldn't have been happy - she is not a good sailor! We had some lunch, then headed up on deck, where a few people were feeding a gull who was following the boat, and it would come and get the food from the railing or even from their hand. So I spent several minutes taking pictures! As we drew close to Dover, we had to wait out at sea for a while, I guess waiting for a berth. It was quite a work of art edging it in, fighting the wind. Our journey from Dover across to my sister's near Gloucester took us through sunshine and showers, one of the latter being a real squall, with torrential rain, where with the wipers full on, Roger still couldn't see where he was going - fortunately it was fairly short-lived. Unfortunately Jen wasn't feeling good today, having come down with a sore throat, and this evening feeling as if she had a fever, so she took herself off to bed early. I do hope it's something she can shake off fairly quickly and it doesn't spoil her stay in England visiting the family.
