Nostalgy is a disease
After couple of months digital imaging I feel that I miss film, so much. I miss the feel of a decades old camera made of metal, the beautiful craftsmanship that has designed and manufactured it, the metal click of the shutter, the anticipation created by the fact that I have no idea what I have captured until I develop the film, the smell of fixer and mostly the wonder of picture emanating from nothing when it floats in the developer, and most of all the feeling when I hold the negatives or wet prints - I made these!
Sitting by the computer screen, watching pixels forming images... well, that's lame in comparison.
And in the same time I know this does not make any sense. Judging by the end result, the images I make digitally are far better (at least in the sense of sharpness and other technical qualities) that I've ever made with film. And given the relative easiness of digital capture, more time and energy can be put into the creative process itself: composition, trying new ideas etc. But is the main goal of a hobby to produce accountable end results or is it enough that one can enjoy about the process, regardless what it produces?
To cure this nostalgic disease episode I bought a true classic, Canon AE-1 from local flea market. I think I'll shoot a roll or two and then continue with my Samsung digitals...
