Pet cemetery.
We had a wonderful day exploring Minehead.
We started at the wonderful Dunster Castle, which is efficiently managed by the National Trust. The gardens were glorious, with a lover's bridge and keep garden, dotted with an abundance of shrubs and flowers, some of which I have in my garden - but these looked far more luscious somehow. We strolled through the mill and had a cup of tea in the quaint tea rooms. Jim also wanted to visit the pet cemetery and pay his respects (although he did pee on some of the graves!). The cemetery was charming, albeit with an alarming number of pet graves that depicted worryingly short lifespans. Many were dated before and during the war years and some of the epitaphs signaled the deep devotion that the humans had for their pets.
After we had our fill of Dunster including a lovely lunch in a dog friendly cafe (although Jim was being particularly challenging), we went to Minehead harbour and had a long walk along Culver cliff to Greenleigh farm, and back along the beach. The beach was strewn with super large boulders that made the going slow and treacherous but we managed it back to car with only minor injuries (I fell over and scraped my wrist on a load of barnacles). So smarting slightly from the burning graze and aching limbs (see yesterday's Blip) we called it a day and headed back to the 'van for a rest and a glass of wine and a couple of Ibuprofen!
