Dear 077 887 690976

Hello. You don't know me but you probably know this lovely cat as it is your number that is on his collar tag. Number now unobtainable, by the way, as I have tried to contact you by ringing it. I am worried. For you and for the cat.

I'm not going to judge you as me and my husband were faced not so long ago with the prospect of having to re-home our four much-loved cats as our finances were so dire that we could not buy food for ourselves and weren't eligible for food bank vouchers but - thanks to the kindness of friends - we survived. And now we are in a slightly better position than then. And we still have our lovely cat family.

But where are you? What are the circumstances which drove you to abandon this lovely, friendly cat? What could we do to help? Sadly we cannot afford to take in another cat so we will be contacting our vet for advice. Word is that pet shelters are inundated with animals that have been abandoned because their people just can't afford to keep them and healthy animals are being put down. Another consequence of 'austerity Britain'.

Our cats don't appear to be hostile to this visitor. And our neighbours tell us that he has been sleeping in their gardens. But today he strolled in and slept for quite some time on our settee. Who knows where he will be tomorrow.

'Here', in case you're wondering, is in the so-called Golden Triangle neighbourhood of Norwich, England - NR2. I can be contacted via Facebook if you can help.

Update: His family have been in touch - they were very worried about him as they are awaiting results of tests from the vet (he is 12 and has always been a bit of a wanderer). They live a few doors from us, and we know them to say hello to. He's back home with them, which we're all delighted about, and have agreed we'll keep each other posted on how he progresses.
