Baby Blackbird

15 minutes ago I thought I had todays blip sorted and ready to upload when my daughter wispered: "Look!!!"

And here it is - all fresh and new - Baby Blackbird on the balcony, ready to go for it's first adventure (or better the second - the first adventure was landing on the balcony).

There is a blackbird nest under the roof of my balcony and over the last days I watched Mama and Papa Blackbird come and go and listened to the young ones making all sorts of funny noises.

Baby Blackbird was sitting there like paralized for a few minutes (with us very quiet in the open door watching and waiting) and then it flew down in the grass. Wow! Looked good for a first attempt!
As far as I know the young ones are fed on the ground for another 2 weeks by their parents. I wonder how may babies there are/were - impossible to look into the nest. I'll keep an eye on it tomorrow morning.

And here just for you a bit of conversation between my daughter and me:
Me: "Isn't it too late in the day for a baby to leave the nest?" (It was almost 9 in the evening, sunset at 8:52)
Her: "I don't think I saw the baby wearing a watch."
Silly me...
