To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first world war

Herbert George Columbine VC
a 24 year old private serving with the 9th squadron machine gun corps during the 1914/18 war.
Herbert won the highest decoration for military valor for the bravery he showed fighting off a German attack in Hervilly France.
he lived in Walton on the Naze.

this new bronze statue was erected in walton on the 4th Aug 2014
