Capel St Andrew
Capel St Andrew is a tiny hamlet on the Suffolk coast, in fact it is reported 'there are no houses at Capel St Andrew just farm buildings'. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book, as Capeles which is derived from the Latin for Chapel. The church was demolished between 1529 and 1553.
St Andrew, patron saint of Scotland and also of fishermen, hence a steel fish in his hand. Also featured are oak trees that originally surrounded the coastal village and a chapel which gave its name to the village.
This piece was commissioned to celebrate the millennium from money raised by the local community.
