A momentary scene of action on a dull morning...

I took out my equivalent 40mm lens combination to Barns Ness this morning but did not have a particularly successful time in finding anything to photograph as there was limited bird life around. The only reasonable images I captured were of a flight of birds that were flying along the edge of the rocky beach. My only problem is that I have been unable to identify them even though if viewed LARGE it is fairly easy to distinguish their plumage. Can anybody help ?
