Exam results day
We were all awake early waiting for the exam results – the boys get emails and then half an hour later it is on the school website for the parents’ access. Luke was disappointed with his results (he always is) but they are certainly good enough to apply to Oxford and other good universities. Adam got cracking AS results and will be able to apply for Natural Sciences at Cambridge, which is a very competitive course to get into. But good results don’t guarantee acceptance at Oxbridge, both universities hold tough interviews for candidates, so what will be will be and who knows where they will end up. Although Luke is a year ahead of Adam at school he is taking a gap year so it turns out that both boys will be starting uni in the same year.
After digesting the results and the subsequent frantic flurry of texting and whatsapp’ing to friends, we set sail for Barcelona. It was a short journey of only 18 nautical miles and although there were big swells, it was relatively calm compared to the previous two days.
The marina at Barcelona is filled with huge super yachts – we felt quite dwarfed by the size of the yachts around us. Luke googled some of them and one of them has a crew of 34 people and also takes 36 guests….and they are all British owned (or registered). Maybe we may see someone famous on one of them? Other than that the facilities here are ok, we are on pontoon C and if you go stand on the corner of pontoon A you may get Wi-Fi….The showers are right at the end of the marina through a construction site and one has to wear hi-viz jackets to walk through there.
This is an image of the port of Ginesta where we stayed last night. It is a rather large man-made port that did not have much character, but the Wi-Fi there was as were other facilities, consequently there were many boats moored there on a long term basis.
