The Goose and The Gander

Day 18

Took a bus from Hue, Vietnam to Savannakhet, Laos. The trip went alright, and the border crossing was relatively easy. The only complaint was that we were not expecting to pay as much as we did to get our Laos Visa ($40). It was mainly our fault, as any travel book tells you it could cost this much, but for some reason we were planning on paying $20 a person. Needless to say, we were wiped out with no cash after the border.

Arriving in Savannakhet, a town of several Dinosaur museums, it was quite obvious this town was not geared for tourism. That's certainly fine by us, but since we ARE tourists on a vacation, we knew we wouldn't be staying here long.

We found a guesthouse for $5. This is the bathroom--probably one of the worst one's we've had (though we've certainly become used to these kinds of toilets in China), but the bed was fine, and the extra money saved went to the most amazing dinner ever and some local beers the rest of the night.

Cheers to manual flushing toilets!
