Stunning skies as we head for Bend founded in 1905, Bend boomed in 1911 when the railroad arrived and sawmills sprang up to log Central Oregon's Ponderosa pine forests. After a sleepy half century it is booming again, this time as the recreation capital of this sunny region where skiing, mountain biking and white water rafting are very popular.
